The Mountain Communities Fire Safe Council has over $3.6 Million in funding through CAL FIRE Wildfire Prevention grants.
We are currently able to offer financial assistance to all homeowners in our mountain communities to help meet Defensible Space requirements under California PRC 4291, and to support the removal of Dead, Dying, or Diseased Trees.
There are no income or other qualifying conditions to participate. Homeowners simply pay 25% of the total project cost, and the remaining 75% is covered by the CAL FIRE grant.
For Defensible Space work, we do ask that homeowners maintain their property using simple hand tools for the next few years. Because of this, Defensible Space grants are available once every three years.
We’re here to help you make your property safer and more fire-resilient. Please reach out if you’d like to learn more or get started!

With support from Pacific Gas & Electric, MCFSC has received a small grant from California Fire Foundation to assist Idyllwild HELP Center clients with their cost share payments. Interested homeowners should contact the HELP Center for details at (951) 659-2110.
Applications for this Low-income Assistance for Mitigation and Preparedness (LAMP) program are available on our Applications for Service page, but must be submitted to the HELP Center for verification.
California Fire Foundation has teamed up with funding partners across the state to help local fire departments, firefighter associations, fire safe councils and other community-based organizations through individual grants worth up to $15,000. Funding aids grantees in helping their communities address issues that threaten millions of Californians each year. More information is available at cafirefoundation.org.
